Going Back To The Start by DelilahhLayne

Dee looked up from where she was sitting, surprised to see someone walking towards her. She had found this small picturesque spot ages ago, and she had no idea that anyone else knew about it. She quickly wiped the tears that had fallen down her cheeks and looked in the opposite direction. She didn’t want to anyone to see her crying after her fight with Noel, they had fought so many times that it seemed stupid for her to be upset still. She was surprised how much his words still stung, how much every angry gesture seemed to shatter her confidence and puncture wounds in her self esteem. She wished he would take it back, and then hold her in his arms as he had done when they had first started going out. “Dee” a voice said softly, she turned unwillingly to Noel, looking up at his perfect, angular features. “I’m so sorry” he said, sitting down beside her. She edged away, not trusting herself to speak incase her voice shook. She kept her head down and could feel his eyes on her. She didn’t want to look up, his deep blue eyes always crumbled her resistance. There was a moment where neither of them spoke, Dee just looked down at the dark green grass and Noel just stared at Dee’s face. “Dee, you don’t know how lovely you are” he whispered after a second, leaning his head on her slender shoulder. She breathed out slowly, trying to push away the new tears that were forming in the corners of her eyes. “Why are you here?” Dee finally asked, her voice breaking slightly. She didn’t want Noel to end it, but she didn’t want to fight all the time. “I had to find you” he explained with a small shrug “To tell you I need you”

Noel needed her?

Noel had millions of lovesick teenage girls chasing after him, it seemed odd he had set her apart from them. Dee looked over at Noel, he was staring into her eyes through his thick frame of dark lashes, his eyes sad and somehow searching. “I want us to go back to how we used to be” Noel said with a weak smile “Tell me your secrets, ask me your questions, like we used to do at the start” Dee was so tempted, but she didn’t know if she could. Starting again with Noel was easy, they did it after every fight, after every break up. “I don’t know, Noel” Dee said softly

“Hey, nobody said it was easy” he muttered

“No one ever said it would be so hard” Dee countered with a deep sigh. Noel put his arm around her and she flinched slightly, trying to work out what he was thinking. She just guessed, pulling the puzzle apart. Noel turned to look at her, leaning in and placing a soft kiss on her cheek. Her brain whirred, wondering what to do with the moment. Another tear slipped down her cheek as she thought, Noel brushed it away with the tip of his long fingers. All of the questions in her head weren’t speaking as loud as her heart. If Dee told him she loved him, would it come back and haunt her? Would they go back to how they used to be at the start? No one said it would be easy to commit to something, and it would be such a shame of them to part. “Noel” Dee spoke softly, his eyes instantly snapped up to meet hers. He looked expectant and as she tried to gather her thoughts, he took her tiny hand in his. ‘I’m going back to the start’ a voice in her head reminded her. She breathed out slowly, pressing her fingertips lightly to his pale face. “I love you” she said. He smiled, leaning in quickly and kissing her. She melted into the moment, wishing they could stay this way forever. As they broke apart Noel pressed his forehead to hers. “I love you too” he said confidently, his voice not shaking like Dee’s had. Dee wondered if this had been a mistake, but she didn’t know what to make of it. So she decided to enjoy it, for now.
