Don’t be Blunt by Dunkel_ziege

“You could’ve tried to be a little less blunt about it!” shouted Julian across the room to a very unhappy looking Noel.

“I’m sorry, you caught me by surprise. That was the last thing I expected to hear” replied Noel a considerable amount of decibels less than Julian. He looked down at his feet, his back was pressed against the wall and his arms were folded, he didn’t know what to say to Julian now.

“Look I was drunk, I didn’t mean to tell you there and then but it felt right” he had calmed down a bit now and was feeling stupid. “We were dancing and it was nice being that close” he sighed loudly and slumped down on the couch running his hands over his face and into his hair.

“I’m sorry too Ju, I had no idea and I was drunk too, it surprised me” he slid down the wall his knees drawn up to his chest.

There was silence for a few moments as both of them remembered, vaguely, the shouting and dancing. Slow dancing, bodies so close and moving in such harmony. It was nice to get drunk at a club; friends were then permitted to dance that closely, that intimately with one another.

“I meant it though, I mean even if I was drunk” Julian finally said, albeit very quietly.

Noel didn’t say anything he just stood and sat at the opposite end of the couch looking at Julian. He fiddled with the end of the jacket and he looked nervous, “I know you meant it, I’m sorry I want all crazy at you” he dipped his eyes downwards again. “I didn’t mean to tell you to fuck off and shout at out so everyone heard. I should’ve just left it. I feel like such a wanker”

“Well don’t little man, it’s all my fucking fault anyway” it was evident that Julian was feeling more than a little foolish.

“No, you don’t see what I’m trying to say, I really didn’t mean anything I said, I meant the complete opposite. I was just scared that it should come out that way” he looked at Julian again who was looking back, one eyebrow raised in confusion. Noel moved slightly closer and placed his hand on Julian’s knee.

The connection snapped Julian into searching for something to say, his whole body was tingling, “What do you mean?” he asked swallowing hard as he looked directly at his friend.

“I mean, Ju, that I love you too”
